German energy company RWE said half of the wind turbines for the Nordsee Ost installation off the German coast have been installed.
"The construction of the Nordsee Ost wind farm is making good headway," project director Marcel Sunier said in a statement Monday. "Since the middle of March, all the foundations have been anchored firmly in the seabed, in June we completed the inter-array cables and in July the substation was erected at sea."
Nordsee Ost will provide at its peak 295 megawatts of power, enough to meet the annual electricity demands of 300,000 German households.
For European member states, the country had the highest level of carbon dioxide emissions last year.
Nordsee Ost will be connected to the German energy grid by early 2015.
"We intend to commission the wind farm completely next spring," Sunier said. "However, the first wind power systems are due to be put into service and to feed power into the grid as early as this autumn."
