Professor To Present Vision For A Zero-Carbon Future
Nottingham UK (SPX) Jun 15, 2010
A University of Nottingham professor is to outline his vision for a UK powered completely by renewable energy by 2030 in an open lecture taking place later this month. Professor Seamus Garvey, of the University's Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, will speak on the potential of vast floating offshore 'energy farms' off the UK coastline, which could produce 'green' electricity at a fraction of the cost of its nearest competitors. Professor Garvey said: "Imagine ... read more

Germany launches push into offshore wind
Borkum, Germany (UPI) Apr 30, 2010
The blades began turning on Germany's first offshore wind farm this week - the starting signal for the construction of hundreds of additional sea-based turbines. Erected 28 miles off the North Sea coast, the Alpha Ventus farm consists of 12 wind turbines - each nearly as high as the Washington Monument - that are to generate enough power for nearly 50,000 households. Proposed Wind Power Grid To Make Wind Power More Reliable
Stony Brook NY (SPX) Apr 14, 2010
The energy needs of the entire human population could potentially be met by converting wind energy to electricity by means of wind turbines. While offshore wind power resources are abundant, wind turbines are currently unable to provide steady power due to natural fluctuations in wind direction and strength. However, offshore wind power output can be made more consistent by choosing projec ... more

Group announces Nevada wind turbine plant
Washington (UPI) Mar 12, 2009
U.S. Renewable Energy Group, China-based A-Power Energy Generation Systems and American Nevada Group announced plans to build a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Nevada. The 320,000-square-foot plant, with annual production capacity of 1,100 megawatts of wind energy turbines annually - enough to power 330,000 homes - is expected to be ready for operation by the end of 2011. It is expected to employ approximately 1,000 Nevada workers. In making the announcement Thursday, the partne ... read more
