Caltech Researchers Find Schooling Fish Offer New Ideas For Wind Farming
California (SPX) May 19, 2010
The quest to derive energy from wind may soon be getting some help from California Institute of Technology (Caltech) fluid-dynamics expert John Dabiri-and a school of fish. As head of Caltech's Biological Propulsion Laboratory, Dabiri studies water- and wind-energy concepts that share the theme of bioinspiration: that is, identifying energy-related processes in biological systems that may provide insight into new approaches to-in this case-wind energy. "I became inspired by observations of s ... read more

Group announces Nevada wind turbine plant
Washington (UPI) Mar 12, 2009
U.S. Renewable Energy Group, China-based A-Power Energy Generation Systems and American Nevada Group announced plans to build a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Nevada. The 320,000-square-foot plant, with annual production capacity of 1,100 megawatts of wind energy turbines annually - enough to power 330,000 homes - is expected to be ready for operation by the end of 2011. It is ... more

China's wind power sector faces challenges
Beijing (UPI) Feb 22, 2009
Amid steep competition and lower profit margins, some industry insiders say China's wind turbine sector grew at the expense of quality. In 2004, there were six wind turbine manufacturers in China. By 2009 that number increased to more than 70 companies. During the same period, China's wind power capacity increased from 760 megawatts to 20,000 megawatts. Now the country is the world's third largest wind power market. Turbine blade prices have decreased by about one-third since 2004, an in ... read more
