Proposed Wind Power Grid To Make Wind Power More Reliable
Stony Brook NY (SPX) Apr 14, 2010
The energy needs of the entire human population could potentially be met by converting wind energy to electricity by means of wind turbines. While offshore wind power resources are abundant, wind turbines are currently unable to provide steady power due to natural fluctuations in wind direction and strength. However, offshore wind power output can be made more consistent by choosing project development locations that take advantage of regional weather patterns and by connecting wind power generato ... read more

Wind: The Easiest Crop To Harvest
Washington DC (SPX) Jan 26, 2010
Today's farmers are interested in wind energy because they're good managers; farming is all about maximizing profits and reducing risk. Wind energy does both. It's an additional, steady source of income that doesn't require extra work, a second crop that can be harvested without effort or significant use of land. Some people might believe because wind turbines are such large structures tha ... more

Antarctica wind farm operational
Auckland, New Zealand (UPI) Jan 20, 2009
The world's southernmost wind farm, in Antarctica, is now operational. The Ross Island wind farm will supply about 11 percent of the power to New Zealand's Scott Base and the American McMurdo Station. Previously, the two sites relied on diesel-powered generators for electricity. The wind farm will cut diesel consumption by about 463,000 liters a year and reduce carbon dioxide output by 1,370 tons annually, according to New Zealand-based Meridian Energy, the project's developer. The three turbines, each 37 meters tall and 33 meters wide, are generating 330 kilowatts of power. ... more

British engineers slam home wind turbines as 'eco-bling'
London (AFP) Jan 20, 2010
Installing wind turbines and solar panels in people's homes is "eco-bling" that will not help meet Britain's targets on cutting carbon emissions, engineers warned Wednesday. In a new report by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE), Professor Doug King said it was better to adapt buildings to make them more energy efficient than try to offset energy use with "on-site renewable energy generat ... more

China scraps limits on foreign wind turbine parts
Beijing (AFP) Jan 12, 2010
China has scrapped restrictions on the use of foreign parts in wind power turbines, state media reported, as the nation seeks access to more advanced technology to meet its clean energy targets. The decision by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) means wind farms in China no longer have to source at least 70 percent of turbine parts from the domestic market, the China Business News said Monday. The restrictions were scrapped late last year but were not announced publi ... read more
